Admissions Appeals
Year 7-11
We understand that not being offered a place at your preferred school can be disappointing, particularly when you feel that Coloma would be the right environment for your daughter to learn, grow and flourish.
If your daughter has not been offered a place at Coloma Convent Girls' School, you have the right to appeal to an Independent Admissions Appeal Panel. This right applies to applications for all year groups.
An appeal provides you with the opportunity to explain why you believe Coloma is the right school for your daughter and why you feel her individual circumstances should be considered.
Before making an appeal
When deciding whether to appeal, you may find it helpful to consider:
-
Our Admissions Policy: Familiarise yourself with Coloma's published and determined admission arrangements for the relevant academic year.
-
Your reasons for choosing Coloma: Consider why you believe our school is particularly suited to your daughter's educational, personal and individual needs.
-
Your supporting evidence: Think about any relevant circumstances or information that you would like the Independent Appeal Panel to take into account.
-
Alternative school options: Consider the other school places available to your daughter while the appeal process takes place.
How do I make an appeal?
If you wish to appeal, please contact our Admissions Appeals Team at admissions.appeals@coloma.co.uk.
An appeal form will be sent to you, together with information about the process and the relevant deadlines. Please ensure that all sections are completed and that your paperwork is returned by the date specified.
The Independent Appeal Panel will receive a copy of your original application and any supporting information you have submitted. You will have the opportunity to explain your reasons for appealing on the appeal form and provide any relevant supporting documentation.
It is important that all information and supporting evidence is submitted in advance of the hearing. The Panel will not normally be able to consider additional documents or information brought forward on the day itself.
Important information for Year 7 applicants
Following National Offer Day, Coloma must first receive confirmation from the Local Authorities of the outcomes of all initial offers before further Year 7 places can be considered. This information is usually received after the Easter holidays.
We appreciate that waiting for an outcome can be difficult, and we encourage families to accept the school place offered to them while pursuing a waiting list request or appeal. Accepting an alternative school place will not affect your right to appeal or your daughter's position on Coloma's waiting list.
We are here to help
We recognise how important this decision is for families. If you have questions about the appeals process or need further information, please contact our Admissions Appeals Team at admissions.appeals@coloma.co.uk.
